Miro – Stonecrest

I’ve made the rounds over at the Stonecrest Shopping and I’ve finally gotten to Miro, a high-quality Spanish restaurant that manages to entice diners enough that they’ll gladly wait over an hour for the opportunity to sample their goods. I’ve attempted to go a few times but the wait has always driven me away, until now. I was a big fan of the gone but not forgotten Don Quijote on South Boulevard. I’d been to a different Miro location a time or two during my infatuation with Don Quijote but it wasn’t strong enough to gain my undivided attention.

When you walk in you know this is a quality restaurant but it’s not the kind of place that if I walk in with jeans on that I’m going to feel out of place. This isn’t a top tier restaurant but it’s definitely solidly above average. Meals are typically around $15 to $25. Not bank breaking but not cheap. Seating is obviously inadequate due to the typical wait but it’s not a small restaurant. All the good places in the ‘burbs are slammed for dinner on the weekends and Miro is a little smaller than many of the other options. The staff is attentive and professional and we had no issues with service during our meal.

The food is quite good. We started with Prosciutto and cheese as an appetizer which wasn’t bad. Honestly, not really my thing but I liked it. For my main entree I had the Barenjena Rellena (Stuffed Eggplant) which is really good stuff. I finished up with Key Lime Pie. Good stuff too. Overall the meal was really very good. Did it make me want to jump up and down and do the happy dance? No, but that’s not a bad thing. This is a really good restaurant. With the wait the way it is I had inflated hopes so I’m trying to keep that in mind. Also, I’m tainted by my previous love of Don Quijote. Miro comes in as a close runner up to Don for me and that means that as far as Spanish restaurants go in Charlotte, this is number one.
