CLT Eats – A Charlotte Restaurant Review

A friend wanted to go grab a bite at Kabob Grill in Dilworth last night so off we went. I’ve been before but it’d been a little while. This is a very small little Mediterranean restaurant in the strip running along side the Harris Teeter parking lot just off East Boulevard. There’s also another recently opened location in the Stonecrest Shopping Center that I’ve been too as well. When you get inside you’ll find a few tables and a small bar. It can get busy quickly with such little seating but I’ve never had to wait to be seated. The staff is friendly, courteous and reasonably quick. The decor obviously has a Mediterranean flare to it. You’ll find Hookah pipes and such things around. The Stonecrest location is similar but feels more like dining in a large upscale spartan bathroom than a nice restaurant. I don’t mean to make the Stonecrest location sound bad. It’s fine. But it’s just a little wierd. The Dilworth location has a little of the spartan feel but it’s much more intimate and lived-in feeling.

I ordered the Kafta Kabob Wrap. Kafta is spiced ground beef formed into the shape of a hot dog. The wrap has the Kafta, lettuce, tomato, pickle and a creamy sauce. It’s a great meal although not as filling as I might prefer. It’s a little less expensive than some of the other options due to it’s size but it’s not fair to call it cheap. The Kafta Kabob entree that my friend ordered is significantly larger with two sides. He got the Falafel and Baba Ghannouj. I was a little preoccupied so I didn’t think to snap a picture of my wrap until after I was finished although I did get a picture of the entree. There really wasn’t much to look at with the wrap other than the pita bread, paper it was wrapped in and basket it was served in.

The food is really good although for the price it’s not exactly a bargain. There are plenty of other restaurants that are significantly nicer and offer more atmosphere, food, and presentation for the money. What you won’t get at most other places is a unique meal like what you can get here though. If you don’t mind spending a couple extra dollars solely on unique meal I’m sure you’ll be quite pleased.
